There has been a clash between protesters and police in South 24 Parganas after violence against Waqf law in Murshidabad, West Bengal. On Basanti Highway, the police stopped a car carrying a car carrying the Indian Secular Front (ISF) workers, which caused unrest.
In fact, ISF workers and locals from Bhangar, Minakh, Sandakhali blocked the highway at 10 am during the protest. The activists going to Ramlila Maidan surrounded the police. The police had to lathi-charge to disperse them.
The situation came under control on the highway, but a fierce mob vandalized 5 police bikes in Shonpur and set them on fire. The van carrying the prisoners turned and vandalized it.
These activists were going to attend a public meeting to be held at Ramlila Maidan in Kolkata at the behest of Indian Secular Front (ISF) MLA Naushad Siddiqui.
During the public meeting, Naushad alleged that both BJP and Trinamool Congress are playing with religion in West Bengal for vote bank politics. They have no concern about economic development.

Who is playing this unholy game in the name of religion? Religion means faith, love and culture. Religion is a symbol of unity. Why are quarrels, riots and unrest? Everything can be won with love. Do not isolate anyone. We live once and die once. Then why is a riot? People of every caste and religion have the right to oppose, but do not take the law in their hands.

Things improved after deployment of force in Murshidabad, 19 families returned
Here, after the violence between 10-12 April in Murshidabad, now the situation is gradually becoming normal. On Monday, ADG Law and Order Javed Shamim said- shops have started opening. So far 19 displaced families have returned to their homes. Malda and Murshidabad district administration together are getting the people a safe comeback.
Shamim said- 210 people have been arrested so far. A separate case will be registered in the father-son murder case and the culprits will not be spared. At the same time, the Central Government has deployed 1600 personnel in violent areas. Internet is banned in violent areas. Section 163 of BNS is also applicable.

TMC allegations- BJP behind Murshidabad violence
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former MP Kunal Ghosh accused the BJP and other political parties behind the Murshidabad violence. He said- We have got input that there was a big conspiracy behind the incidents of violence.
A section of central agencies, BSF and some political parties was involved in this conspiracy. BSF helped and got the miscreants cross the border of the state. Some miscreants entered the area of Murshidabad, spreading anarchy and BSF also helped him to return.
Ghosh further said- BJP in its social media posts using pictures of other states and described it as Murshidabad. There is a conspiracy to discredit Bengal with the help of BSF. They are trying to provoke the people of Bengal. So that the BJP can use it for its benefit.
Waqf law opposed- April 14 updates
- The YSR Party has challenged the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 in the Supreme Court. A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Murshidabad violence. It has demanded to create a SIT for investigation.
- BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has demanded the NIA investigation into the Murshidabad violence. On the other hand Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind held a meeting in Delhi. Members of many Muslim organizations from all over the country participated in it. BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari has demanded 2026 to hold the West Bengal Assembly Elections under President’s rule.
- The Assam Police on Monday registered an FIR in the violence case in Cachar on 13 April. There is no arrest at the moment. On Sunday, 300-400 people took out a rally in Cachar without permission. Calcutta High Court will hear the petition filed on violence on April 17
In West Bengal, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court. It demanded the deployment and violence of central force to be investigated by NIA. On April 12, the High Court ordered the deployment of central security forces in violent areas.
A bench headed by Justice Saumen Sen had said- we cannot blind eyes on the reports that have come out. These include barbarity in some districts of the state. Apart from Murshidabad, wherever violence is seen, the Central Security Force should be deployed. The case will be heard on 17 April.

Violence took place on 11 April in Murshidabad, Malda, South 24 Parganas and Hooghly districts. The protesters set fire to vehicles and threw stones at the police. Crude bombs were also thrown at the police at Sajur Crossing in Suiti police station area. During this time 10 policemen were injured.
The police had fired four rounds to control the situation. Two people were injured in the shootout. Both are undergoing treatment.

Muslim Personal Law Board announced, demonstration will run for 87 days
The first phase of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) ‘Waqf Rescue Campaign’ will start from April 11 and will run for 7 July i.e. 87 days. In this, 1 crore signatures will be made in protest against the Waqf law, which will be sent to PM Modi. After this, the strategy of the next phase will be decided.
17 petitions filed in Supreme Court, 10 listed 17 petitions challenging the constitutionality of the new Waqf law have been filed in the Supreme Court. The bill was supported by 128 members in the Rajya Sabha, 95 protested. This bill was passed in the midnight of 2 April in the Lok Sabha. During this period, 288 MPs voted in support and 232 in protest.
