Vigilance department's big action, bribe-taking munshi arrested red-handed

Vigilance has taken a big action against corruption in Ludhiana. Vigilance arrested Head Constable Mandeep Singh of Police Post Kailash Nagar, Police Station Division No. 8, Ludhiana on charges of demanding and accepting bribe. The accused police officer posted as police station munshi has been arrested on the complaint of Mahdev Prasad, a resident of Rajan Estate, Joginder Nagar, Haibowal, Ludhiana.

The complainant contacted Vigilance Ludhiana and recorded his statement that he works as a hojri and his factory is located on the first floor of the building near Handa Hospital and the said building was rented from Satinderpal Singh 3 years ago.

He further said that his landlord has filed a complaint against him in the above mentioned police station regarding some payment issue. The complainant alleged that the above Munshi Mandeep Singh had already taken a bribe of Rs.30 thousand from him in installments in the name of police post in-charge and other police officers to process his complaint.

From the said amount, Mandeep Singh MHC had received Rs 5500 in his account through Google Pay and now he was demanding an additional bribe of Rs 5000 from him to take action on this complaint.

After investigating the complaint, VB Range Ludhiana laid a trap and the accused police officer was arrested at the police post while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. In this regard, a case under Corruption Act has been registered against accused MHC in VB Police Station Ludhiana range. The role of police post in-charge will be examined during the investigation.
