Rashid Khan was born in Uttar Pradesh and received his early musical education from his maternal grandfather Nasir Hussain Khan. He was the nephew of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. It was Mustafa Khan who first discovered his talent and his early musical training took place in Mumbai after Bandau.
