The accident happened near the town of Carberry in southwestern Manitoba, about 170 kilometers (105 miles) west of Winnipeg, police said. CBC News quoted a casino spokesperson as saying the bus passengers were going to a casino in Carberry.
Most of the dead were elderly
“Sadly, this is a day in Manitoba and across Canada that will be remembered as a tragedy and incredibly sad,” said Assistant Commissioner Rob Hill, who commands the Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He said that there were about 25 people in the bus, most of whom were elderly.
10 others are under treatment in hospital. Police said that the drivers of both the vehicles are alive. At present, it is not clear which vehicle driver is responsible for the incident.
