29% drop in wholesale price of tomato
The wholesale price of tomato fell to Rs 7,575 per quintal from Rs 10,750 per quintal today, according to data released by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. Tomato prices have come down. A drop of 29 percent has been recorded in the wholesale price of tomato. This decline is being recorded since last Friday. Meanwhile, NAFED has started selling tomatoes in many states including Bihar, Bengal.
NAFED is providing tomatoes to people at very subsidized rates. A drop of 29 percent has been recorded in the wholesale price of tomato on Saturday. On the other hand, NCCF has also started selling tomatoes at Rs 90/kg in Delhi-NCR from Friday.
When will tomatoes return to the kitchen?
Prices are expected to come down further with the early arrival of new crops and improving weather. On the other hand, till Sunday, tomatoes will be available at government rate in some other areas of UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. Since Sunday, NCCF has been selling cheap tomatoes at around 100 centers in Delhi. According to the NCCF president, the subsidized sale of tomatoes will continue as is until the prices stabilize. However, for those who are not getting tomatoes at Rs 90 per kg, it may take a few more days for tomatoes to return to their kitchens. A reduction in wholesale prices has been recorded recently, the impact of which may take some time to see.
