The company said on Thursday that this action has been taken under the new IT Rules 2021. WhatsApp has stated in its monthly compliance report that from April 1 to April 30, 74,52,500 accounts have been banned and out of these 2,469,700 accounts have been actively banned.
So many complaints filed
With nearly 500 million users across the country, the most popular messaging platform received a record 4,377 complaints in the month of April, and 234 cases were processed. A spokesperson for the company said that the security report for this user includes details of the user complaints received and the actions taken by WhatsApp, along with preventive measures taken by WhatsApp to deal with abuse on its platform.
Further, the company said it had received 2 orders from the Grievance Appeal Committee between April 1 and April 30, which were acted upon. To empower millions of Indian social media users, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, recently launched the Grievance Appeal Committee (GAC), which will look into concerns about content and other issues.
To strengthen digital laws to curb big tech companies, the newly constituted panel will hear appeals by users against decisions of social media platforms.

But taking strict action on this, the government has launched ‘Sanchar Sathi Portal’. With the help of this portal, people will now be able to complain about fake calls and messages.
