President honored with Padma Shri
In the year 2007, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the President for his outstanding work in the business sector. He was also recently appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Governors at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. Rajinder Gupta serves as the Chairman of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Advisory Council for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. Gupta is the representative of trade, industry and commerce on the Board of Governors of the Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion.
From early life to the Trident Group
Rajendra Gupta started his professional life with a small job making cement pipes and candles. Initially, his income was only Rs 30 per day. In the 1980s, he decided to do something bigger and started Abhishek Industries in 1985. After this, he established a spinning mill in partnership.
After this, he never looked back in his life. In the year 1991 he created new benchmarks of success. After this he expanded his business in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. Today they have a business of 17 thousand crore rupees.
After this he expanded his business to Punjab and MP. Currently, his Trident Group clients include Walmart, JCPenney and Luxury & Linen. However, due to family and health reasons, he left the board of directors of Trident in the year 2022. But he is the chairman emeritus of the group and its head office is in Ludhiana. At the time he founded Abhishek Industries, he took a huge risk with his position.
