The number of electric vehicles in the country is increasing rapidly. A new brand of electric buses will soon ply in three states. EKA Mobility, a unit of Pinnacle Industries, has won the tender for the supply of 310 EKA9 electric buses in three states. These buses will be used for intercity transportation.

These electric buses of EKA Mobility will be used in Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana and Kerala for 12 years. This is estimated to reduce about 1.40 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions. 32 passengers can sit in this electric bus. It has features like auto drive, power steering, bacterial filtration system and air conditioning. For safety, it will have camera and emergency stop button. The electric bus is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor with an output of 200 KW and a maximum torque of 2,500 Nm.

It gives a range of up to 200 kilometers in a single charge. Its top speed is 80 kmph. EKA Mobility has also developed a bus that runs on hydrogen fuel. The company says that its design has been made according to the conditions of the country’s roads. Recently the country’s first air-conditioned double decker bus was introduced in Mumbai by the Public Transport Corporation or BEST. Fleet has been included. However, this has been delayed by several months. This bus can ply on suburban routes in Mumbai where there are diesel double decker buses.

Lokesh Chandra, general manager of BEST, has told that around 20 such buses are to arrive by the end of March. The number of double decker electric buses will increase to 200 by the end of this year. These buses It is being supplied by Switch Mobility, a subsidiary of automobile company Ashok Leyland. Chandra said that these buses will be run on double decker bus routes in South Mumbai and suburbs. These buses have facilities like digital ticketing, CCTV cameras and panic buttons in case of emergency. The fare of these buses will be same as that of normal air conditioned buses. Switch Mobility has informed that there has been some delay in the certification of these buses due to changes in the certification process by the Central Government.
