Jharkhand is the favorite destination of migratory birds. This is the reason that flocks of migratory birds start appearing in large numbers in the swampy areas around the reservoirs, puddles and rivers of different districts from November itself. The special thing is that after 149 years in Lohardaga, “Lesser Adjutant Stork” Hindi name “Garuda” and local name “Gandagandur” have been seen again in Nandi Dham located in Kachmachi. Earlier in the year 1874, an eagle was seen in Lohardaga.
However, earlier in the year 2011 in Jharkhand, four of these endangered birds were seen in the Udhwa Lake Bird Sanctuary of Sahibganj. IUCN marked in endangered bird in 2020 :
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed the stork, the Lesser Adjutant Stork, as an endangered species in 2020. Looking at the rapidly decreasing number of these birds, they have been included in the endangered i.e. Red List category. Sanjay told that the Garuda birds seen are adults. Its length is about 55 inches. Generally, these birds find their abode on tall trees, so that they stay away from the sight of common people.
Male and female look alike:
It is difficult to differentiate male and female in Garuda. The color of both is generally the same. Whereas, the body of the male is estimated to be heavier than that of the female. The length of the female is estimated from 45 to 50 inches.

Identification :
Adult Garuda has red face, head color brown and white, thin neck color yellow, plumage color gray and body color white.
