Theft in Court | Thief enters Goa’s district court, escapes with seized cash

Grandmother: A thief allegedly entered the evidence room of the district and sessions court building in Panaji, capital of Goa, and decamped with cash seized as evidence in various cases. A police officer gave this information on Wednesday. The incident took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday in the court located in a Portuguese-era building, he said. A security guard was stationed at the entrance of the building.

The functioning of the three district courts located in the complex was affected on Wednesday due to the investigation of the case. The judges have given further date to the matters listed on Wednesday. A police official said that the thief entered the premises by breaking a window at the rear side of the building.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the thief fled with the cash seized as evidence in various cases, the official said. Only after a detailed investigation will it be known whether any papers and other material were stolen or not.
