The Sarpanch of village Kadon of Ludhiana has been dismissed by the Director Rural Development and Panchayat Department. The Sarpanch is accused of having cut down the fully developed trees in Kadon village. The concerned block development and panchayat officer has been ordered by the department to confiscate all the property and bank account of the panchayat from the sarpanch and was elected unanimously. Kadon village sarpanch Parminder Singh was given an opportunity to file a reply before the department but the department was not satisfied with his reply after which on March 31 Director Rural Development and Panchayat Department Gurpreet Singh Khaira ordered his dismissal. given

The department received complaints that the sarpanch had cut down mature trees on panchayat land despite the green tribunal’s ban on tree felling. The Sarpanch was summoned on 23 December 2022 to file a reply within 15 days of receiving the notice but to no avail.

On March 13, they were given another chance to make their case. Sarpanch appeared before the department along with a lawyer but the department was not satisfied with their reply. This is the second incident in the last 6 days when a sarpanch has been dismissed.
