The rain exposed Jharkhand’s power system, many areas in darkness, till now no government has fulfilled the promise

Ranchi, Sunil Chowdhary:

Due to the change of weather, it has been raining since three days, the poor power system in Jharkhand has been exposed. The condition is that there is no electricity for many hours in most of the areas in the capital itself. The shortage of electricity is such that people are not able to handle even the normal work at home.

Since the formation of Jharkhand as a separate state, every government has promised to make arrangements for 24-hour power supply, but there has never been a continuous 24-hour power supply in the capital itself. At the same time, the rural areas are hardly getting electricity for 12 to 15 hours.

Jharkhand could not become self-sufficient in electricity:

Jharkhand has not yet been able to become self-sufficient in terms of electricity. This is because the state has only two plants of its own – Tenughat (420 MW) and Sikidiri Hydel (130 MW). The demand for electricity in the peak hour in the state goes from 2200 MW to 2500 MW.

In such a situation, the demand is met by taking power from companies like DVC, NTPC, SECI, NHPC and Modern Power. That is, electricity is purchased from them and supplied here. In such a situation, due to increasing financial burden, Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam (JBVNL) is continuously running in loss. The state government has not been able to set up any power plant of its own. However, the state has NTPC, DVC, Tata Power, Modern and Inland power plants.

Corporation is selling electricity worth 6430 crores for 5869 crores:

According to the account of JBVNL, in the financial year 2021-22, Rs 5869.89 crore has been received from selling electricity. At the same time, Rs 1077.65 crore has been received from the government as a grant. That is, the total income is 6947.55 crores. 6430.83 crore electricity was purchased by JBVNL in one year.

At the same time, Rs 2088.38 crore has been spent more than the income. JBVNL has accepted that there has been a loss of Rs 2088.38 crore in one year. That is, the corporation is incurring a loss of Rs 5.72 crore per day in buying and selling electricity. JBVNL’s AT&C loss is 33%, which is twice the national average of 16.87%.

Hydel plant will be installed in Tenughat and Chandil Dam

Water power (hydel power) plants will be built in Tenughat and Chandil Dam. Its preparation is being done by Gerda. One MW plant will be built in Tenughat and eight MW plant in Chandil Dam. Chandil Dam will have two units of four MW each. The plant will be constructed in PPP mode at both the places. It was told that next week the RFQ will be removed by GERDA.
