Bureau Report: There has been a big controversy regarding marriage in a Gurdwara Sahib of Bathinda. Anand work has been organized for 2 girls in Gurdwara Kalgidhar. Sikh organizations are strongly objecting to same-sex marriage. The leaders of the organizations who reached the Gurdwara Sahib have also apologized to the Granthi Singhs.
It is being told that the girls who got married were not related to Sikh religion. Both the girls had also told Granthi Singh that they are both girls. When Granthi Singh refused, he was told that legally it has been approved. After which one of the scribes consulted with the other scribes and then the ceremony of Anand Karja took place. But the Sikh organizations said that this marriage is contrary to morality and should not have been allowed. Arriving at Gurdwara Sarib in anger, the organized Sikhs taught Granthi Singh a non-Sikh manners lesson, after which Granthi Singh admitted his mistake and then apologized with his hands. It is probably the first time that a same-sex marriage has taken place in a Guru house in Punjab. Same-sex marriage has also been dismissed by Shri Akal Takht Sahib. It has been described as the opposite of Sikh rehita mariada.
Indian law does not recognize the marriage of 2 girls
Same-sex marriage has not been recognized in India so far. 2 boys or 2 girls cannot marry each other. Section 377 of the IPC, which criminalized homosexuality, was recently struck down by the Supreme Court in 2018. Which was a big victory for gay rights in the country. However, even now same-sex marriage has not been legally approved. However, in 2017, the Delhi High Court had said that same-sex couples have the right to live in a relationship. But it cannot be brought under the ambit of law at present.
