When the judge wouldn't let him in the initial hearing, he went to the state Supreme Court, where he won. The court ordered that the hotel give Mickey a room and a key. Since then he was living in that hotel without paying rent till July 2023. He got possession of the room from the housing court, but in 2019, he uploaded a fake agreement letter on a city website and claimed to own the entire hotel.
He then began to take over many aspects of the hotel, such as collecting rent from a hotel tenant, working with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection to pay for water and sewage.
