Health and Family Welfare Minister of Punjab Dr. Today, Balbir Singh personally led the ‘Every Friday Dengue War’ campaign in Patiala to sensitize people to prevent dengue, malaria and chikungunya. The Cabinet Minister visited the factory, houses in Hira Bagh area to inspect various water containers, refrigerators, coolers, flower pots, parks and waterers used for birds. The health minister checked every place where there was a possibility of dengue larvae and made people aware about it.

He said that awareness is the biggest weapon for the prevention of dengue and only by educating the people, the breeding of mosquito that spreads dengue can be stopped. He said that the Chief Minister Under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann, where the Punjab government is providing better health services to the people near their homes, at the same time, people are also being made aware to prevent diseases.

Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh appealed to the residents of the state to spend one hour every Friday from 9 am to 10 am to eliminate dengue in their homes and surroundings. Meanwhile, all flower pots, standing water in coolers, refrigerator trays and any other containers filled with water in the open should be dried apart from draining so that the breeding cycle of mosquito larvae is broken. It takes about a week to develop into an adult mosquito. He said that when the oil used for cooking/frying is no longer usable, we can also mix it with stagnant water to kill dengue mosquito larvae.

The Health and Family Welfare Minister also said that although dengue testing and treatment is completely free in government hospitals, we can protect ourselves from dengue by taking some simple precautions. He said that 1300 beds have been reserved for dengue patients in the government hospitals of the state. Dr. Balbir Singh also appealed to the residents to come forward and lead this campaign by making people aware of such precautions in their mohallas and villages. On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Raminder Kaur said that 36 thousand 490 houses have been visited by the health department teams in Patiala district and larvae were found in 510 houses which have been destroyed by the teams. He said that 111 dengue cases have been reported in Patiala district so far.
