In order to ensure the benefit of scholarship schemes organized by the central and state government to the meritorious students in Punjab, the state education department has been instructed to apply online for the schemes through e-Punjab portal.
The department said that eligible students should be selected at the time of admission. The Director of School Education in his letter also mentioned that students who were not competent in the previous session were registered with the schemes as the records were not thoroughly checked.
According to the department, this process is a waste of time and the National Scheduled Castes Commission had focused on this process. Registration of all development works will be the responsibility of school principals.
The letter also said that the number of students applying for scholarships has decreased despite the large population of reserved scheduled castes. This fact is also in the notice of the SC Commission. The department asked the school heads to apply to the students on the portal.
Assistant Director of Wazifa Gurjot Singh said that the portal will be opened only once for the current session and it is necessary to register the students within the stipulated time. He said that strict action will be taken if the delivery is not done at the head office at the school and district level.
