Punjab Floods: A central inter-ministerial team of the Government of India visited the flood-affected areas to take stock of the damage caused by the floods in Punjab. Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra and Kulwant Singh, MLAs of Sannoor and Shutrana constituencies informed this team about the damage and affected areas in their constituencies. Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni informed about the complete situation of damage due to floods in the district. On this occasion, Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department Krishna Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Arun Shekhadi were also present.

This central team under the leadership of Ravinesh Kumar, Financial Advisor of National Disaster Management Authority, also talked to the farmers and other representatives of the area who suffered from the damage caused by the floods of Tangri and Ghaggar at Rohar Jagir, Badshahpur, Rampur Padta.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni gave a presentation at University College Mirapur and gave detailed information about the damage caused in the district due to the floods on 10 July and the rescue and relief operations of the Punjab government. The central team obtained information from the officials of agriculture, water drainage and other departments.

In an informal conversation with the media, Ravinesh Kumar, financial advisor of NDMA, said that he has thoroughly reviewed all the damage and destruction caused by the floods. He said that the team will prepare a report according to its assessment and give it to the central government. Ravinesh Kumar said that the Punjab government will also give its report as a memorandum, according to how much damage has been done in the state and the assistance will be provided only according to the rules set by the Indian government to provide relief for natural calamities.

He said that appropriate action will be taken as per the prescribed rules to compensate the loss of lives, crops, houses and other property and infrastructure. In this 7-member central team, Director of Central Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Department BK Srivastava, Remote Sensing Department of ISRO and Flood Mapping Head of DMSG, Science Engineer Dr. AV Suresh Babu, Rural Development Under Secretary Kailash Kumar, M. Ashok Kumar Jaif, Director, Central Water Commission, Chandigarh, Anjali Maurya, Assistant Director, Ministry of Finance and Naveen Kumar Chaurasia, Ministry of Roads and Transport, are included as members.

On this occasion, ADCs Gurpreet Singh Thind, Jagjit Singh, Anupreeta Johal, SDMs Kirpalveer Singh and Navdeep Kumar, District Revenue Officer Navdeep Singh, besides Drainage, Irrigation, Public Works, Agriculture, Rural Development, Electricity etc. Officials of the departments were also present.
