Food delivery app Swiggy has released its analysis on World Idli Day. Idli is a popular dish from South India, but it is liked all over India. Swiggy has revealed that an idli ‘lover’ from Hyderabad spent Rs 6 lakh on idli orders in the last one year. The man ordered a total of 8,428 plates of idlis for his friends and family during his travels to cities like Bangalore and Chennai. Swiggy’s analysis is based on data from March 30, 2022 to March 25, 2023.

of NDTV Report According to Swiggy, it has delivered 33 million plates of idlis in the last 12 months, which shows how popular the dish is among customers. Swiggy has reported that Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai are the top-3 cities in the world, where the maximum number of idlis are ordered. Apart from this, idli is also ordered in Delhi, Kolkata, Kochi, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Pune, Vizag and other cities.

Swiggy’s analysis also shows that the most popular time to order idlis is between 8 am and 10 am. Customers from Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Mumbai also order idlis for dinner. On the other hand, talk about which idli is the most popular, then Swiggy has told that plain idli is the most popular among all the cities. Rava Idli is most preferred in Bangalore, while Ghee/Nee Karam Podi Idli is popular in cities of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The analysis also revealed that Idli is the second most ordered breakfast item on Swiggy, after Masala Dosa. The food delivery app says that customers order idli along with other side dishes like sambar, coconut chutney, karampuri, medu ved, sago, ghee, red chutney, tea and coffee. Swiggy has also shared the details of 5 restaurants which are most popular for their idlis. These include A2B-Adyar Anand Bhavan in Bangalore and Chennai, Varalakshmi Tiffins in Hyderabad, Sangeetha Veg Restaurant in Chennai and Udipi Uphaar in Hyderabad.
