Uttarakhand: Snow leopard has been seen for the first time at an altitude of 11,120 feet above sea level in the Darma valley of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Pithoragarh Divisional Forest Officer Mohan Dagre said on Thursday that the team, which went to search for animals living in the high altitude areas of the Himalayas, saw the leopard of this rare species on the snow-bound path of Dar village on February 6. He told that the searchers took a picture of the snow leopard from a distance of 20 meters.

Snow leopard usually lives at an altitude of more than 12 thousand feet.

Along with this, Forest Officer Mohan Dagre said that for the first time information about the presence of snow leopard at such a height has been received. He told that the snow leopard usually lives at an altitude of more than 12,000 feet but Dar village is situated at an altitude of 11,120 feet. He told that it is possible that due to excessive snowfall at the height, the snow leopard has left its normal habitat and came down. Dagre told that earlier the snow leopard was seen in the state’s Nanda Devi range of the Garhwal Himalayas, parts of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.
