A total of 14,387 people from Ukraine passed through the Slovak-Ukrainian border points from March 6 to 12 this year to enter the Slovak Republic.
Data provided by the Slovak Ministry of the Interior reveal that during the same week, 575 Ukrainian refugees applied for temporary shelter. Meanwhile, 14,689 people crossed the border points in the last days on their way out of Slovakia to Ukraine, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
A high number of Ukrainians crossed the land border between Ukraine and Slovakia the week before the above-mentioned too. From February 27 to March 5, a total of 14,922 people from Ukraine entered the Slovak Republic from Ukraine, while 733 refugees applied for temporary shelter. At the same time, 16,487 people passed through the border points on their way out of Slovakia to Ukraine.
According to the Ministry’s data, the total number of arrivals in Slovakia from Ukraine since February 24 last year is 1,273,393, and the total number of departures from Slovakia to Ukraine is 1,060,312.
Regarding the total number of temporary residence permits issued from March 1, 2022, until now, it has been revealed that the country has issued 111,548 permits for Ukrainians.
Previously, Slovak authorities revealed that from December 5 to December 11, 2022, 17,035 people arrived in the Slovak Republic through the country’s border.
In this regard, the country’s Interior Ministry said that during this period, a total of 679 Ukrainian citizens have applied for temporary asylum. The same source added that 17,899 people crossed the borders of Slovakia on their way from this country to Ukraine.
Moreover, figures for the period between November 28 and December 4 reveal that 17,666 people arrived in the Balkan country from Ukraine. It was also reported that during the same period, 735 asylum applications were submitted by Ukrainian citizens. At the same time, 17,730 Ukrainians left Slovakia to return to their country.
Furthermore, taking into account that Slovakia has shown great support for Ukraine and its citizens in a state of war, the latter also decided to extend the period of providing temporary housing for Ukrainian refugees until March 4 of next year.
Commenting on this decision, the Ministry of the Interior explained that persons who currently have Slovak residence permits which are valid until March 4, 2023, would continue to be able to use them until March 4, 2024, without having to take further administrative steps.
At the same time, it was noted that if the refugees want to update the document, they can do so through the electronic service of the Ministry of the Interior.
