The apex court sought state-wise details of steps taken towards elimination of dry latrines, status of dry latrines and sanitation workers in Cantonment Board and Railways. The bench of Justice SR Bhatt and Justice Dipankar Dutta issued this order while hearing a petition. The petition prayed for issuing directions for the appointment of manual scavengers and implementation of the provisions of the Dry Latrines (Prohibition) Act, 1993 and the Prohibition of Appointment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 Is.
