The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) recently got a new president. Sanjay Singh was elected president in the elections held on December 21, but two days later the WFI suffered a major setback. The Sports Minister has suspended the new WFI. Along with this, the people who opposed the elected people have expressed their happiness. After these elections, Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik retired from wrestling.
Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat also expressed their displeasure. These people said that Sanjay Singh is close to the former president of WFI Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. All these people opposed Brij Bhushan and accused him of sexually abusing women.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has suspended the WFI saying that the dates recently announced by Sanjay Singh for the U-15 and U-20 national players are too early and will not give the players time to prepare. Sanjay Singh had said that these competitions will be held in Gonda which is Brij Bhushan's constituency. The sports ministry has said that the year is about to end and earlier these announcements were made in haste. He said that this has been done without giving full information to the participating players and without following the constitution of the federation.
Sakshi, Vinesh said this
After the suspension of WFI, Rio Olympics-2016 bronze medalist Sakshi Malik has said that she wants justice to be done to the girls. She said that she will take a decision on the next step with her entire team. He said that this is the first step which has gone well and also expressed hope that the government should understand what the daughters and sisters are fighting for. Sakshi said that his fight is not with the government but with a person. Our battle was with women. We are fighting this battle in our own way.

Bhushan said this
After this suspension, former president of WFI Bhushan has also expressed his views. He has said that he worked for wrestling for 12 years, time will tell what he did right and what he did wrong. He said that now he has severed his relationship from wrestling and now whatever decision has to be taken, whether to talk to the government or to follow the legal process, it will be done by those who have been selected. Bhushan has said that he has distanced himself from wrestling and now his focus is on the Lok Sabha elections. They said they have a lot of work to do. They said that whatever happens in the case of wrestling has nothing to do with them.

Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry has taken another step. The Ministry has written to the Indian Olympic Association. The Ministry has asked the IOA to form an ad-hoc committee to handle the day-to-day functioning of the WFI.
