India's legendary wrestler Bajrang Punia, who a few months ago threatened to throw his medals in the river Ganga after going to Haridwar, has now done something that has shocked everyone. Bajrang, who had been campaigning against former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Singh since January this year, announced on Friday, December 22, to return his Padma Shri. This time, Bajrang not only announced, but also directly reached the Prime Minister's residence to return this honor given by the Government of India. When the police stopped him there, the star wrestler placed his Padma Shri medal on the pavement.

Brightened the name of India all over the world

For the last 10 years, Bajrang Punia had illuminated the name of India all over the world with his powerful performance. He won the silver medal at the 2018 World Championships. He also won gold, silver and bronze medals at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. His continued success at major events resulted in the Indian government awarding him the Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest honor, in 2019, but the government forced Bajrang to return the same honour.

Padmashri placed on the footpath

The entry of someone close to Brij Bhushan in the recent results of the wrestling federation has once again stirred up the wrestlers. The impact was seen on Friday, when Bajrang wrote a long letter to the Prime Minister announcing the return of his Padma Shri award. After this letter, Bajrang reached the Prime Minister's residence at Lok Kalyan Marg with the Padma Shri medal. Obviously the security personnel had to stop them and that's what happened.

A senior police officer explained to Bajrang that he would not have a meeting and therefore could not be allowed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In such a situation, Bajrang repeatedly asked him to deliver his medal to the Prime Minister. Even that could not happen and it was here that an emotional Bajrang laid down his Padma Shri award on the footpath with a heavy heart. The police officers kept explaining to him but even Bajrang did not agree.

Good controversy again after the election

From January this year Bajrang, along with many women wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, also opened a front against the former head of Mahasangh Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. There were demands for the removal and arrest of Brijbhushan, alleging sexual harassment. Brijbhushan was not arrested but was expelled from the Sangh. Brij Bhushan's relatives were also kept away from the elections on the demand of the wrestlers. Then, after many postponements, elections were held and Sanjay Singh was elected as the new president. Now Sanjay Singh also turned out to be close to Brij Bhushan and in such a situation the wrestlers started protesting again. Due to this protest, Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik announced to quit wrestling a day before.
