S. Jaishankar: foreign Minister S Jaishankar Has said that the international system is rebalancing and ‘the era when Westernization was considered the standard of progress is left behind’. He said, “The international system is gradually becoming increasingly multipolar and if there is to be rapid development, it is necessary that there is a cultural rebalancing.” Jaishankar was speaking at the inauguration of the 12th World Hindi Conference here. Expressing the need to promote the importance of Hindi in the context of international relations, Jaishankar said that language is not only an expression of identity but also a medium to connect India and other countries.
‘Around 1,200 Hindi scholars and writers from all over the world are participating’
About 1,200 Hindi scholars and writers from all over the world are participating in this conference organized by the Fiji government and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in Fiji’s major city of Nadi. During the inauguration of the three-day convention at the Denarau Convention Centre, Fiji’s President Ratu Willime Katonivari, besides the Government of India Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra And Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan was also present. Jaishankar and President Katonivari jointly released a postage stamp on this occasion. Earlier Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitwini Rabuka was to be present in the inaugural session, but Indian officials told that due to the Parliament session here, the President attended the inaugural session instead.
‘Seeing a new India being built’
Underlining the importance of language and culture in international diplomacy, Jaishankar said, “India has completed 75 years of independence and now we are moving forward on an ambitious path for the next 25 years which we have called Amritkal.” He said, “It is the result of the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that we are witnessing the creation of a new India.” Language and culture will be even more important.
‘Language and tradition are emerging again on the global stage’
Emphasizing on the spread and promotion of Hindi, Jaishankar said that many such languages and traditions which were suppressed during the colonial era are once again emerging on the global stage. He said, “In such a situation, it is necessary that the world has a good knowledge about all cultures and societies and that is why it is very important to widen the teaching and use of different languages, including Hindi.” Indian ministers Ajay Mishra and V Muralidhar also addressed.
