Risk of floods in Gurdaspur-Pathankot, holiday in schools of Bamial block

The continuous heavy rains in the hilly areas have increased the water level in the rivers and canals. Due to this, 2 lakh cusecs of water has been released in Uj river this morning once again. After which the risk of floods has increased in Gurdaspur, Pathankot.

Due to rising water level in Uj river, a holiday on 19/7/2023 has been announced today in all the primary schools of Bamial Block in the border area.

The administration is instructing the people that no one should go to the banks of Uj river.

Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, giving this information, said that 171797 cusecs of water has been released in the Uj river, which will enter the Ravi river near Makura Pattan at 8:00 am today and will reach Dharamkot Patan, Ghonewal (Dera Baba Nanak) two hours later at around 10:00 pm.

The Deputy Commissioner has cautioned the residents living near Uj and Ravi rivers and asked them to stay away from the flood affected areas of Uj and Ravi rivers and also take their animals to safe places.

He said that information about any flood-like situation can be given on toll-free number 1800-180-1852 of the control room of the district administration or on the number 01874-266376 of the flood control room. He said that the district administration is fully prepared to deal with any situation like flood.
