The process of property registration in Punjab is going to be easier than ever. It is being told that the Punjab government has started work on the plan in this regard. According to media reports, now the registries will be on the lines of passports. Just as people first take an online appointment to get a passport and later get their photo clicked, get the documents checked and deposit the fee at different counters under one roof, property registry will also be done now. According to the sources, it has also been learned that this pilot project will be started in Mohali and Bathinda.

At present registration is done as follows
Sellers and buyers go to a deed writer. He records the property documents like khasra number of the land, terms of the deal, information of witnesses, collector rate of the concerned area, information of buyer and seller of land and other points. After their investigation, they see how much fees are charged on the property deal.

-People take an appointment with the deed writer to get the registration done. Along with this, stamp paper is also purchased online. All kinds of government fees are deposited.
– According to the appointment, people go to the Patwar Khana with the deed writer.
-The Numbardar verifies all the documents before going to the Tehsildar.
-The seller and the buyer arrive in front of the Tehsildar. After taking photographs of both the parties, get them to sign the document.
-Registration is done as soon as the seal of Tehsildar is affixed.
-Finally there is a transfer, which registers the property in the name of the new owner in the land records.

In the new system of registry, after taking an appointment online, the registry will be under one roof without going through different counters. This will make the whole process easier. Fixing time limit for each work and submitting fee online is being considered. This will also reduce time and curb corruption.
