Punjab Government: The central government has announced a relief package of Rs 218.40 crore for Punjab. This amount has been released as per the recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs. In which 22 state governments are being given Rs 7,532 crore.

The amount has been released as immediate assistance to the states without waiting for the utilization certificate of the amount provided to the states in the previous financial year in view of heavy rains. SDRF is constituted in each state under Section 48(1)(a) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The Central Government contributes 75% of the SDRF to the ordinary states and 90% to the North-Eastern and Himalayan states.

The package will be released in two installments

The annual central contribution will be released in two equal installments as recommended by the Finance Commission. As per the instructions, the funds are released on receipt of utilization certificate of the amount released in the previous installment and report from the State Government on the activities carried out by the SDRF. But this time in view of the circumstances these conditions have been waived while releasing this package.

SDRF is used to meet the expenses of providing immediate relief to the victims of notified calamities like cyclone, drought, earthquake, fire, flood, tsunami, hailstorm, landslide, avalanche, cloudburst, insect attack and frost and cold wave. goes

The allocation of SDRF funds to states is based on various factors such as past expenditure, region, population and disaster risk index.
