Indian Railways on Sunday announced a cut in the maximum retail price of Rail Neer. The price of one liter bottle has been reduced from Rs 15 to Rs 14 and the price of half a liter bottle has been reduced from Rs 10 to Rs 9. Passengers will get the benefit of historical GST reforms from this deduction. Apart from Rail Neer, the maximum retail price of packaged drinking water bottles of other brands selected by IRCTC/Railways will also be amended. These instructions will be applicable from 22 September.

The official order states that the maximum retail price of the packaged drinking water ‘Rail Neer’ will be increased from Rs 15 to Rs 14 for a bottle of one liter capacity and Rs 10 for a bottle of 500 ml capacity from Rs 10 to Rs 9. The same rates will also apply to other packaged water brands approved by IRCTC/Railways. Indian Railways is the largest rail network in the world and millions of people travel daily, so water is one of the most important things purchased by passengers, especially in the summer season. This reduction in prices will directly benefit passengers, especially those traveling long distances.

The move is also being seen as a passenger-interest initiative of the railway, as Rail Neer prices were unchanged for many years. The Railway Board has directed all the concerned authorities including IRCTC, Regional Railway and Audit Bodies to ensure strict implementation of the revised prices from the notified date.
