The family of judo player Raghu Mehra, a resident of Bahrampur Road in Gurdaspur, is facing many difficulties. His elder brother Lakshay Mehra took care of his father's medicine during his illness and his mother supported the family by working in a private school. Raghu Mehra is a 10th class student. His father was also interested in Judo but due to family responsibilities he could not continue his sport.

Raghu joined Shaheed Bhagat Singh Judo Coaching Center Gurdaspur along with his elder brother. But due to the kidney disease of the father, the elder brother gave up the sport and started working in a private school. But Raghu Mehra did not give up. Raghu Mehra worked hard and won gold medals at all junior levels and then at the national level last year.
