Punjab Police website closed for 6 days

All websites related to Digital Punjab Police Department have been closed. The official website of Punjab Police has been down since August 2, while the websites of all district police offices have stopped working since Saturday. This is because the root cause of the trouble is believed to be expired SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates that have not been renewed on time.

The lack of timely renewal of SSL certificates has not only disrupted routine activities, but also created inconvenience for individuals to lodge complaints, or use online services – including passport verification, complaint processing, and the police. including filing a complaint online.

Expired SSL certificates not only compromise the security of these websites, but also undermine public confidence in the effectiveness and reliability of the Punjab Police Department’s digital infrastructure. Potential breaches of sensitive information and resulting delays in legal proceedings and investigations.

Local resident Davinder Sharma said that in this age of technological advancement, government departments must prioritize the maintenance and security of their digital platforms. SSL certificate etc should be checked from time to time so that people don’t face problems.

Punjab Additional Director General of Police (ADGP, Technical Services) Ram Singh said that there may have been some technical glitch, but they will look into the problem and try to restore it.
