Punjab Police conducted Operation Vigil-2, seized heroin and weapons worth lakhs

Police launched Operation Vigil-2 on Sunday to break the network of gangsters and criminals to strengthen security in Punjab. The operation started from 7 am and continued till around 3 am. The teams recovered 1.15 kg heroin, 37 kg poppy, six pistols and drug money worth Rs 7.02 lakh. Along with this, 116 cases have been registered and 141 people have been arrested.

More than 7500 policemen took charge in the districts under the supervision of SP rank officers, 5 DSPs and 10 SHOs for the Police Vigil-2 campaign. Police personnel checked 141 railway stations and 219 bus stands as well as 926 hotels, 172 taverns and 166 Dharamshalas. Police teams checked 9521 two-wheelers and 7122 four-wheelers.

During this operation, the police ensured minimum inconvenience to the common people. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Inspector General of Police (IGSP) of the range. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that such campaigns will be conducted in future as well. Their effort is to take strict action against those who spoil the environment of the state, so that the common people do not have to suffer.

Special Director General of Police (DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla said SP-level officers were deployed to conduct searches at railway stations and bus stands. DSP level officials were posted at all the checkpoints. He said that such operations will continue until the drugs and gangsters are wiped out from the state.
