India’s first e-timber portal has been launched by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann last Sunday. It has been launched in Ludhiana to increase the income of farmers through agroforestry.

Chief Minister Mann said that this portal is the first of its kind developed by the Forest Department in the country and it will ensure complete transparency in sale and purchase of timber which will benefit the farmers.

Giving more information in this regard, CM Mann said that earlier the sale and purchase of wood in the state was largely done through unorganized markets, due to which the farmers were not getting the right price. He said that this online portal will prove beneficial for the farmers.

Meanwhile, farmers can sell wood through online mode at any place of their choice. Bhagwant Mann said that this portal will ensure beneficial value of produce to farmers, thereby encouraging them towards agroforestry.

Online sale and purchase of trees will also save farmers time, money and energy. He hoped that this portal would open new avenues of progress and prosperity for the farming community of the state. Along with this, direct communication and interaction between industry and farmers will also help.
