CM Mann letter to Amit Shah: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking President’s assent to the blasphemy bills.

In a new letter to Shah on May 24, Mann said, “We have now received a reply from your ministry that the proposed punishment in the amendments appears to be excessive. In this context, I would like to bring to your notice that Guru Granth Sahib is considered by Sikhs as a living Guru and respected accordingly.”

Bhagwant Mann further wrote in the letter, “It is very important to maintain communal harmony in Punjab and therefore there is a need for strict punishment to deter criminals who try to disrupt communal harmony. Therefore, I again request that the President’s assent to the said bills be given to the state government at the earliest.”
