Energy, food security and defense are likely to be areas of focus after PM Modi arrives in Abu Dhabi today on a one-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Meanwhile, the two strategic partners will review the progress after signing the historic trade agreement.

“The beauty of this relationship is that our leaders have been in regular contact, even during Covid, they were connected to each other through online mediums,” said Sanjay Sudhir, India’s ambassador to the UAE. He said that the ‘Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement’ (CEPA) which gave new impetus to economic relations between the two countries was also signed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sudhir said, “In just one year, our trade has increased by 19 percent and now the total trade is around 85 billion dollars. The initial target was 100 billion US dollars in 5 years.” Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
