Pankaj Udhas had been ill for a long time, his health had deteriorated due to cancer. He was born on 17 May 1951 in Jetpur, Gujarat. He was the youngest of his three brothers.
His interest in singing arose when he was just five years old. With the help of his elder brother, he started performing on stage and then he started capturing the hearts and minds of people with his voice.
During the Indo-China War in 1962, he gave a stage performance. He was singing the song 'Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon' on stage. People went crazy for his voice. Then a person came from the crowd and gave them 51 rupees.
