Pakistan Election Result: How did Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan lose the winning bet?

After the general elections in Pakistan, the ongoing political drama seems to be getting a break. Five days after voting, on Tuesday, two major parties of Pakistan have announced to form the government together. Nawaz Sharif's party PML-N is forming the government together with Bilawal Bhutto's PPP. Along with this, Imran Khan's party PTI is also preparing to form an alliance with the smaller parties of the country. But PTI's chances of forming the government are not looking good.

PML-N has also announced the name of the Prime Minister in the new government. Nawaz Sharif has named Shahbaz Sharif for the post of Prime Minister. While his daughter Maryam Nawaz is PMLN's candidate for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab, the largest province of Pakistan.

Announcing the results, the Election Commission of Pakistan has said that independent candidates supported by PTI have won 101 seats. PML-N won 75 seats, Pakistan Peoples Party 54 seats and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan 17 seats. Nawaz Sharif's PML-N and Bilawal Bhutto's PPP are claiming to form the government together.

PTI is now fighting the battle of states

PTI-backed candidates have won the highest number of seats in the country, but they have to be part of a political party or alliance to form the government. It is not possible for PTI to form the government at the centre, but it can form the government in one or two states of the country through alliance with some small parties.

Top PTI leaders announced on Monday that its independent candidates will try to form the federal government and the government in Punjab state in alliance with the minority party Majlis-e-Wahadat-Muslimeen (MWM). Apart from this, the party will form an alliance with the religious party Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) to form the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Why is it difficult for PTI to form a government?

PTI's independent candidates have won the highest number of seats. But the party cannot succeed in forming the government. Out of 266 elected seats in Pakistan, 60 seats are reserved for women and 10 for minorities. PTI will not be given the quota of minority seats due to contesting elections without a party. In such a situation, they will have to join the government with some party or else they will have to sit in the opposition party.

PTI should also be taken along – Zardari

PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari while talking to the media said that in the current situation we need reconciliation with all the parties. PTI is also involved in this process, we don't want PTI to stay away from the government. We want every other political power to come and talk to us and strengthen the hands of Nawaz Sharif for the development of Pakistan.
