Over 100,000 asylum seekers who reached Germany last year were not registered by authorities at the European Union border authorities before entering this country.

According to a report provided by Hot News, such estimations have been provided by the government of Germany, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

The same notes that taking into account the European legislation, all persons who attempt to seek asylum in the European Union countries by entering in an unlawful way should be fingerprinted in the territories of arrival and also registered in a European database.

However, regarding the issue, the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) officials told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that the database Eurodac didn’t provide information on two-thirds of the people who filed an application for asylum last year, or 101,000 out of 151, 277 asylum seekers.

It was also emphasized that in nearly 35,000 cases the applicants had already submitted an application in another country in the European Union.

Germany is among the European countries that are subject to a surge in the number of applications filed for asylum.

“In January 2023, a total of 31,362 people applied for asylum in Germany (29,072 initial and 2,290 follow-up applications). Compared to the previous month (26,672 initial applications), this means an increase of 9.0 per cent. 1,606 of the initial applications in January related to children born in Germany under the age of one year,” the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees pointed out in this regard.

Previously, it was reported that the number of migrants returned from Germany last year was 12,945, thus marking an increase compared to the figures registered in 2021.
