H&M (Hennes & Mauritz) is a Swedish multinational clothing retailer with clothing for men, women, teenagers and children. It has more than 4,500 stores in 62 countries. In 2015 it counted around 132,000 workers
It is the second largest clothing retailer worldwide, just behind Spain’s Inditex (parent company of Bershka, Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear, Stradivarius, Zara and others). It was founded by Erling Peresson in 1947, when he opened the first store on the main street of Vesteros in Sweden. The company’s first name was “Hennes” (Greek: hers) since it exclusively sold women’s clothing. In 1968, Peresson acquired the clothing retail store of Mauritz Wildfors, which led to the inclusion of the men’s collection in his product range and the renaming “Hennes & Mauritz” (H&M).
Since 2004 , H&M has been working with UNICEF on various programs to protect children. By 2012, H&M had raised $8 million for social aid in a program for Bangladesh, which aims to protect children’s rights by giving them access to education. In August 2015, H&M announced that it would reward with an annual prize worth 1 million euros the enhancement of recycling technology and techniques.
New sales staff were announced by the H&M stores in Athens, Maroussi, Piraeus, Agia Paraskevi, Chalandri, Corinth and Rhodes.
