Musk launched xAI to compete with ChatGPT

Tesla and SpaceX CEO and Twitter owner Elon Musk on Wednesday launched a new AI company with the goal of understanding the true nature of the universe. The name of this company is XAI. Musk and his team will share more information in a live Twitter space chat on Friday. Musk said that AI will surpass human intelligence in 5 years.

xAI’s team includes people who have worked at DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and Tesla. These team members have worked on projects like DeepMind’s Alphacode and OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 chatbots. Musk will lead this team. The new company is separate from Musk’s X Corp, but will work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla and other companies.
Musk has been expressing concern about the destruction of civilization from AI

Musk has been a vocal proponent of caution and regulation in AI development. He has repeatedly expressed concerns about the “destruction of civilization” that could result from the uncontrolled advancement of AI technology. Musk’s company xAI will take a unique approach to ensure the security of its AI system.

AI will surpass human intelligence in 5 years
In a Twitter space event, Musk outlined his plan to create a safe AI. Musk also said that in the next five-six years, super intelligence will come i.e. AI will surpass human intelligence. If AI tried to understand the true nature of the universe, it would actually be the best thing from the point of view of AI sepativity, Musk said.

Elon Musk founded the company on March 9, 2023
Information about xAI was first revealed in April. Then The Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk formed a new company called XAI on March 9, 2023. The company is headquartered in Nevada, Texas, USA, and Musk is its only listed director. Jared Burchell, director of Musk’s family office, has been appointed company secretary.

Adding 7-12-23 gives 42, so this date was chosen for the launch.
Musk indicated why he chose July 12, 2023, to announce the launch of xAI. He said in his tweet that adding 7-12-23 makes 42. Actually, there is a science fiction classic “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. It describes the number 42 as the answer to life, the universe and everything.
