Mobile phone users decreased in the country, fixed line increased, do you know the reason?

Number of Phone Users in India: The number of telecom subscribers in the country increased marginally to 117.03 crore in December 2022. The increase in the number of fixed line connections was a major contributor to this. According to data released by Telecom Regulatory TRAI, the number of phone subscribers across the country increased from 117.01 crore in November to 117.03 crore in December. In this way, an increase of 0.02 percent was recorded on a monthly basis.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said in its monthly subscriber report that the number of wireline subscribers increased to 27.4 million in December from 27.1 million in November. The number of 2.92 lakh new customers of Reliance Jio played an important role behind the increase in the number of fixed phone customers. During this period, Bharti Airtel added 1.46 lakh new customers while BSNL added 13,189 and Quadrant added 6,355 new customers. On the other hand, MTNL lost 1.10 lakh customers during the month, while Vodafone India lost 15,920 landline customers.

The number of mobile phone holders declined marginally to 114.29 crore in December. In November this number was 114.30 crore. The reduction of 24.7 lakh customers of Vodafone Idea was a major reason behind this decline. Reliance Jio provided 1.7 million new mobile phone connections in December, while Bharti Airtel added 1.52 million new customers. Whereas, BSNL lost 8.76 lakh customers. The number of broadband connection holders increased from 82.53 crore in November to 83.22 crore in December.
