PGI Chandigarh A sudden fire broke out in the Nehru Block of (PGI) on Monday around 12 midnight. The fire started from the UPS on the ground floor. After which smoke spread in the entire block. Due to this, the patients admitted on 5 floors started having difficulty in breathing. After which chaos broke out there.

Patients and their families started breaking the windows of the wards to let out the smoke. The situation was that the family members were frantically running around to save their patients. More than a thousand patients were shifted to other places as their condition worsened. The fire was immediately reported to the fire department of PGI. The fire department of PGI has started controlling the fire. After which the patients were immediately shifted from there to another place.

According to the preliminary information in the CPU of Nehru block computer Short circuit was done, due to which the fire broke out. In no time, the papers lying there caught fire. On the first floor of the Nehru Building is the Department of Gastrology, where the fire broke out. Most patients of this department have been affected. The Department of Gastrology had a ward and an ICU. ICU Only patients were on ventilator. Now they have been shifted to another ICU.
