Maruti Suzuki pending Bookings Increasing Company is grappling with less Supply of Semiconductors

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki says that the semiconductor shortage is likely to last for the next few quarters. This will further increase the number of pending orders for some of the company’s vehicles. The number of such orders with the company has increased to 3.69 lakh units.

Of these, the highest number of orders are for the Ertiga at around 94,000. The company’s pending orders for the Grand Vitara and Brezza are around 37,000 and 61,500 units respectively. Apart from this, Maruti has around 22,000 and 12,000 bookings for the Jimny and Fronx respectively. In the passenger vehicle segment, SUVs lead the way with 42.6 per cent share, followed by hatchbacks with 35 per cent, he added. The passenger vehicle industry’s sales so far this fiscal have been around 35.5 lakh units and are expected to touch 38.8 lakh units by the end of March, which will be the highest ever. The growth of passenger vehicle segment may be 5-7 percent in the next financial year. Next year its sales can exceed 40 lakh units. He said that Maruti’s performance could be better than the industry.

Maruti’s total in February sales increased by about five percent to 1,72,321 units. It was 1.64 lakh units in the same month last year. The company’s passenger vehicle sales in the country grew by almost 10 percent to 1,47,467 units. However, its exports have decreased by 28.4 percent. Its total sales last month included 1,50,823 units sold in the country, 4,291 units sold to other OEMs and 17,207 units exported. The company sold 1,01,773 units in the mini and compact segments. The figure stood at 97,486 units in the same month last year.
