Today, even after 166 years of Mangal Pandey’s sacrifice, the youth take inspiration from him. He was the brave soldier and fighter who played the first bugle of the revolution of 1857.
As such, many heroes had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of India. But in the midst of all this, there was such a freedom fighter who blew the bugle of freedom revolution in 1857 itself. That’s why even today when the country’s independence is talked about, Mangal Pandey’s name automatically comes on everyone’s lips with great pride.
Be aware that Mangal Pandey had also inspired his comrades a lot to fight against the British. But at that time no one had the ability to support him. After all, Mangal Pandey alone fought with the British like a wounded and angry lion.
Whom history also calls brave
Whereas, according to history, in the 1850s, the new Enfield rifle was brought to India for the soldiers. But then the cartridges used in it had to be cut from the mouth and loaded into the rifle. At the same time, when the soldiers of the Barrackpore Regiment came to know that the fat of cow and pig was mixed in the cartridges used in them. After knowing this, the soldiers of both Hindu and Muslim classes expressed their displeasure.
Mangal Pandey rebelled on this issue on March 29, 1857, at that time he was posted in Barrackpore Cantonment of Bengal. He not only categorically forbade the use of cartridges, but also inspired fellow soldiers to fight the military rebellion and the British rule by giving the slogan ‘Maro Firangi Ko’. On the same day, Mangal Pandey fearlessly attacked two British officers as well.
After this incident, he was prosecuted and he very bravely accepted his rebellion against the British officers. He was sentenced to hang and the date was fixed for 18 April. But again due to the fear of rebellion, Mangal Pandey was hanged 10 days in advance i.e. on 8th April itself. But by then Mangal Pandey had awakened the country with his deeds and bravery. After this incident, there was a military rebellion, which later led to the first war of independence in the year 1857. At the same time, a belief was instilled in India and its countrymen that it was possible to defeat the British and drive them out of here. India finally got independence after 90 years of this military rebellion.
Mangal Pandey’s sacrifice will always be remembered
