Bureau report : Lakhwinder Singh, a BSC student in Khanna’s Nabha Colony could have survived. If there was time, his parents would have tried to know the cause of his pain. The parents knew about the pain but they were ignorant about the cause. At the time Lakhwinder ended his life, family members were present in the house. Mother was sent to the kitchen to make tea, then he ended his life with a fan in the room. After half an hour, when the son did not come down to drink tea, she reached the upper room, her senses flew away and the whole family gathered at once.

Information about the son given to the father on the phone

Father Sanjay Kumar said that he went to work in the morning. His 18-year-old son Lakhwinder Singh was at home. The son sent the mother to make tea with an excuse, when the room was opened, the son had gone. After a while, when he got the information at work, the ground slipped from under his feet. The son was taken to the civil hospital but the doctor declared him brought dead there. Depression is being said to be the major reason behind Lakhwinder’s move. He did not even talk openly with anyone.

Lakhwinder could have survived

Why did Lakhwinder Singh finally decide to end his life? Was there any pressure regarding studies due to which he went into depression? Was he being harassed by a friend in college to such an extent that he did not mention it to his family and ended his life directly? If the parents knew about their son’s depression, they should have talked to him and taken him to the doctor? If the parents had talked to his friends, maybe they would have got information about the trouble of their son? It was not right to leave the son alone in such a condition.

Proceedings under 174 based on father’s statements

ASI Charanjit Singh, who is investigating the case, said that he reached the hospital after receiving the notification from the Civil Hospital. The statement of deceased Lakhwinder’s father has been recorded. According to the family, he used to be disturbed. The police have registered a case under Section 174 CrPC and sent it for post-mortem.
