The team of Anti Narcotics Cell One arrested the smuggler Gurpreet Singh alias Sheru on August 12. When the police proceeded with the investigation, it came to know that Sheru’s assistant was none other than Harmandeep Singh, a constable of the Punjab Police stationed at Meherban police station. The police arrested the accused constable and produced him in the court and sent him to two-day police remand. Police are interrogating the accused.

Gurpreet was arrested with 450 grams of opium

Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that the anti-narcotics cell team arrested Gurpreet Sheru and recovered 450 grams of opium from his possession. After investigating the matter, the police checked Sheru’s call details and found out that none other than Harmandeep Singh was supporting the accused Sheru.

He used to hang the uniform in the car

During the interrogation, it came to light that when the accused Sheru used to go to Moradabad city of Uttar Pradesh to buy opium, the accused used to take Harmandeep with him. He used to hang his uniform in the car so that if anyone stopped him on the way, it would be easy for him to pass by saying that he was a Punjab Police employee.

Both of them were doing drug smuggling business under the guise of uniform for a long time. In a way accused Harmandeep worked as a security guard for smuggler Sheru. The police commissioner said that the accused is currently on two-day police remand. He is being interrogated and more revelations are likely.
