The uproar that started in 2021 regarding agricultural laws in the country may have stopped, but such news is coming out from the states. The latest case has come from Jharkhand. Here the state government has brought a new agriculture bill. In protest against which about six lakh traders of the state went on an indefinite strike from Wednesday. This indefinite strike has been organized under the banner of Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI). Merchant organizations say that the state’s new agriculture bill will adversely affect the farmers and will also increase inflation.

FJCCI vice-president Aditya Malhotra said, “Six lakh traders under the banner of the federation have started their indefinite strike in protest against the new agriculture bill. This bill will have a negative impact on the farmers.” He claimed that mandis and rice mills in the state have been closed and import of food items will also be stopped. The strike was decided in the meeting of the Traders Federation held last week. Jharkhand Agriculture Minister and Secretary could not be contacted for comment.

Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais had approved this bill on February 4. While approving, he also suggested that the state government should frame rules in this regard in consultation with all the stakeholders.
