Jalandhar by-election: One presiding officer and three polling officers will be posted at the polling booths: Deputy Commissioner

Jalandhar: Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Jaspreet Singh, who has been appointed District Election Officer, conducted the first randomization of the polling parties to be deployed during the by-election of Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency at the District Administration Complex here on Tuesday.

The Deputy Commissioner said that polling for the by-election will be held on 10 May 2023, for which nominations will be received from 13 to 20 April and scrutiny of papers will be held on 21 April. After that, the nominations can be withdrawn on April 24 and the counting of votes will be done on May 13.

The Deputy Commissioner said that NIC’s software has been used for randomization of polling parties. He has also informed that 1972 polling booths will be set up in the entire district for the election, where necessary process has been started for appointment of one presiding officer and three polling officers at each booth and constituency assistants allotted to the polling staff. Detailed information about selection duty will be given during the first training on April 16 at the training venue designated by the Returning Officer.

After this, the second, third and fourth and last training will be provided on April 25, April 30 and May 9 respectively. He said that randomization of around 11,000 polling workers has been done to conduct the by-elections of the Lok Sabha constituency in a smooth manner.

The District Election Officer said that in order to conduct fair and peaceful elections in the district, the election process should be carried out in a peaceful and transparent manner and also said that all the necessary arrangements will be ensured.
