Interglobe Aviation Limited i.e. IndiGo has on Monday announced the purchase of 500 Airbus A320 family aircraft. This makes IndiGo the first Indian airline to place such a large order at once. Delivery of these aircraft is expected between 2030 and 2035.

This is the largest order ever in commercial aviation history. Before IndiGo, this record was held by Air India. It is being told that Indigo 500 will spend 50 billion dollars i.e. 4.09 lakh crore rupees to buy Airbus A320 family aircraft. However, the actual cost of the order may be slightly lower, as such large deals are usually heavily discounted.

IndiGo has more than 300 aircraft
IndiGo’s order includes A320 Neo, A321 Neo and A321 XLR aircraft. Currently IndiGo has more than 300 aircraft. It also has a total of 480 aircraft on back order, which are expected to be delivered by the end of 2030.

The airline said – 500 aircraft will be delivered between 2030 and 2035. With this new order, IndiGo has signed a total of 1,330 aircraft deals with Airbus since its inception in 2006.

Air India had placed an order for 470 aircraft four months ago.
Four months ago, Tata Group’s airline Air India made the world’s largest aviation deal of 470 aircraft, now this record has been taken by IndiGo. Air India will get 250 aircraft from French company Airbus and 220 from American company Boeing in the deal.

Earlier, the record for the world’s largest aviation deal was held by American Airlines, which ordered 460 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing in 2011.

Of Air India’s total order, 31 aircraft will enter service by the end of the year, the rest by mid-2025. Air India has not announced the price of the order. However, in some news, the total value of this deal is being said to be 70 billion dollars (about 5.79 lakh crore rupees). In it, the value of the deal with Boeing has been stated as 34 billion dollars (about 2.81 lakh crore rupees).

This was its first aircraft order after Tata Group bought Air India in 2022. Also, this was the first time since 2005 that Air India had placed an order for the aircraft. The airline’s last order was for 111 aircraft, of which 68 were purchased from Boeing and 43 from Airbus. The deal was worth $10.8 billion.
