Reliance Industries Limited and Ashok Leyland have introduced India’s first Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) heavy-duty truck. India’s first hydrogen powered truck was flagged off by PM Narendra Modi at the India Energy Week in Bengaluru. Here we are telling you in detail about the heavy-duty truck running on Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE).

Hinduja Group’s flagship company Ashok Leyland and India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer Reliance Industries were working on H2-ICE technology for the past 1 year. Testing of the heavy-duty truck is being done from August 2022. The Ashok Leyland H2-ICE truck range runs on hydrogen which is similar to the old architecture of a typical diesel based combustion engine. H2-ICE heavy-duty trucks with loading capacities of 19 to 35 tons typically operate on clean energy with low costs, the official statement said.

Ashok Leyland Dr. N. Saravanan, President and Chief Technology Officer ofReliance Industries Ltd., we have once again shown our commitment to our technology leadership and clean mobility mission.” Further, he added that “we aim to make the second fuel segment in India self-reliant and join the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign “

H2-ICE technology looks better for clean mobility. However, the cost is high due to limited hydrogen fuel availability. The Central Government is working on promotional activities like National Hydrogen Energy Roadmap and National Hydrogen Energy Mission. Ashok Leyland last month Auto Expo 2023 showcased its futuristic vehicle range running on electric and hydrogen options, where they were well received by the audience.
