The Indian women’s cricket team has won the first T20 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup by defeating England by 7 wickets. This is the first world title of the Indian team. The senior women’s team reached the World Cup final three times in all formats of ICC cricket but failed to win the title each time.

Fast bowler Titas Sadhu and spin bowlers Archana Devi and Parshvi Chopra contributed brilliantly in this title win. The three bowlers took two wickets each. After dismissing the England team for just 68 runs in 17.1 overs in the final match, the Indian team achieved the target of 69 runs required for victory with the loss of just three wickets in 14 overs to claim the title.

Chasing the goal, Soumya Tiwari and G. Trisha played an innings of 24-24 runs and ensured India’s victory by sharing 46 runs for the third wicket. Captain Shefali Verma scored 15 runs. India’s Titas Sadhu was named ‘Player of the Match’ while England’s Grace Scrivens was chosen as ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the women’s team for winning the first ICC Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup title. The Prime Minister tweeted, “Congratulations to the Indian team for the win. He played good cricket. Their success will inspire many budding cricketers.” Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jai Shah has announced a prize of five crore rupees to the Indian Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup winning team.
